NOVEMBER 5 MORNING

Take thou also unto thee principal spices, and thou shalt make it an

oil of holy ointment.–EXO. 30:23,25.

Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any

other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be

holy unto you.–One Spirit.–Diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

Thy God hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy

fellows.–God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with

power.–God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

Of his fulness have all we received.–As the same anointing teacheth

you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath

taught you, ye shall abide in him.–He which . . . hath anointed us, is

God; who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in

our hearts.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,

goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

NOVEMBER 5 EVENING

The fashion of this world passeth away.–I COR. 7:31.

All the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and

he died.

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: but the

rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he

shall pass away. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning beat,

but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the

grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade

away in his ways.–For what is your life? It is even a vapour of that

appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.–The world

passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God

abideth for ever.

Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is;

that I may know how frail I am.–When they shall say, Peace and safety;

then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with

child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in

darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Scripture for the Day

NOVEMBER 4 MORNING

Now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold

   temptations.–I PET. 1:6.

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to

try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice,

inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his

glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.–The

exhortation . . . speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise

not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of

him.–Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous but

grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of

righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

We have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of

our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet

without sin.–For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is

able to succour them that are tempted.–God is faithful, who will not

suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able.

I Pet. 4:12,13. -Heb. 12:5. -Heb. 12:11.Heb. 4:15. -Heb. 2:18. -I Cor.

10:13.

NOVEMBER 4 EVENING

  The Prince of Peace.–ISA. 9:6.

He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with

judgment. The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little

hills, by righteousness. He shall come down like rain upon the mown

grass; as showers that water the earth. In his days shall the righteous

flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.–Glory

to God . . . on earth peace, good will toward men.

Through the tender mercy of our God; . . . the dayspring from on high

hath visited us. To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the

shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace;–peace by

Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all).

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In

the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have

overcome the world.–Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:

not as the world giveth give I unto you.–The peace of God, which

passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through

Christ Jesus.

Scripture for the Day

NOVEMBER 1 MORNING

Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting

at the posts of my doors.–PROV. 8:34.

Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters,

and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes

wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

A continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of

the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord: where I will meet

you, to speak there unto thee.–In all places where I record my name I

will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.

Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the

   midst of them.

The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship

the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to

worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship

him in spirit and in truth.

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.–Pray

   without ceasing.

   Psa. 123:2.Exo. 29:42. -Exo. 20:24.Matt. 18:20.John 4:23,24.Eph. 6:18.

   -I Thes. 5:17.

   NOVEMBER 1 EVENING

His name shall be called Counsellor.–ISA. 9:6.

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and

understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of

knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord. And shall make him of quick

understanding in the fear of the Lord.

Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? Unto you, O

men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. O ye simple,

   understand wisdom: and ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. Hear;

for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall

   be right things. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding;

   I have strength.

The Lord of hosts . . . is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in

working.–If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to

all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given

him.–Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine

own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct

   thy paths.

   Isa. 11:2,3.Prov. 8:1,4-6,14.Isa. 28:29. -Jas. 1:5. -Prov. 3:5,6.

Scripture for the Day

OCTOBER 31 MORNING
Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.—ZECH. 4:6.
Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counsellor hath taught him?
God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath
chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base
things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which
are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not
tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.—Born
not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
My Spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.—The battle is not yours, but God’s.
The Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s.
Isa. 40:13.I Cor. 1:27-29.John 3:8. -John 1:13.Hag. 2:5. -II Chr. 20:15.I Sam. 17:47.

OCTOBER 31 EVENING
Do as thou hast said.—II SAM. 7:25.
Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear. So shall I have wherewith
to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word. Remember the word unto thy
servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. Thy statutes have been my songs in the
house of my pilgrimage. The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and
silver. For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations.
God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of
his counsel, confirmed it by an oath; that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible
for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon
the hope set before us: which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast,
and which entereth into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is for us entered, even
Jesus.Exceeding great and precious promises.
Psa. 119:38,42,49,54,72,89,90.Heb. 6:17-20.II Pet. 1:4.

Scripture for the Day (Oct 30, 2013)

Morning
Lam. 3:26; Ps. 77:9; Ps. 32:22; Luke 18:7, 8; Prov. 20:22; Ps. 37:7; 2 Chron. 20:17; Gal. 6:9; Jas. 5:7

It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

“Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?”—I had said in my alarm, “I am cut off from your sight.” But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.

“Will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily.”—Wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.—Be still before theLord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

“You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord.”

Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.—See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.

Evening
Song 2:15; Ps. 19:12; Heb. 12:15; Gal. 5:7; Phil. 1:6, 27; Jas. 3:5, 6, 8; Col. 4:6

“Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom.”

Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults.—See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled.—You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?

He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ…. Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ.—The tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell…. No human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.—Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt.
